For the second time this week, the Arizona Diamondbacks recalled Jimmie Sherfy from Triple-A Reno.
On Tuesday, the relief pitcher was called up but did not appear in a game before being sent back down Friday.
Arizona is halfway through a stretch of 18 games without an off-day. Before it started, D-backs president Derrick Hall said the team sent starter Matt Koch down to Triple-A Reno to get more bullpen arms.
Sherfy has appeared in three games for the D-backs this season. He didn’t allow any runs over his two innings of work in May.
In fact, he has yet to allow a run in any of his regular-season MLB appearances. His 14-game streak is the tied for the fourth-longest in D-backs history.
However, in the 2017, National League Division Series Sherfy gave up four earned runs.
With the Aces this season, Sherfy has a 2.01 ERA and 10 saves in 20 appearances. He hasn’t blown a save this season.
There is room on the roster due to the team placing third baseman Deven Marrero on the 10-day disabled list. The D-backs did not immediately specify the injury, but it is retroactive to June 29.
Marrero has appeared in 49 games this season. He is hitting .167 with seven RBI.
