On the heels of reports that the Cardinals were hosting defensive tackle prospects Jeffery Simmons and Gerald Willis III, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday that the team was hosting Oregon defensive back Ugo Amadi for a visit.

Amadi won the Lombardi Award last year, an award “based on performance, as well as leadership, character, and resiliency,” per a release from the Lombardi Foundation.

In four seasons with the Ducks, Amadi played 48 games and recorded 40 or more tackles in three of those years. He had a career year last year in his senior season, playing 13 games and making 55 tackles, four for loss, with 1.5 sacks, eight passes defensed and three interceptions for 70 yards and two touchdowns. He also had three forced fumbles in 2017.

The Cardinals already bolstered their defensive backs room this offseason by signing cornerback Robert Alford, then adding fellow corners Josh Shaw and Tramaine Brock later on. Budda Baker is also expected to move to safety, and the team added D.J. Swearinger late last season.

“This has been an exciting offseason for our organization thus far,” GM Steve Keim said in a press conference on Tuesday. “As I look back, I feel like we have filled a number of needs in free agency, which has given us the opportunity to stick with our philosophy, which is to draft the best player available, no matter if that’s at one or 33 or wherever we may be picking.”

The NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 25.
