The day after the Arizona Diamondbacks used seven pitchers in an 11-inning loss on the road to the Colorado Rockies, the team selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Stefan Crichton and sent fellow right-hander Jimmie Sherfy to Triple-A Reno.
Sherfy, who has already bounced up and down between MLB and Triple-A this year, allowed no runs, hits or walks in a 1.1-inning outing on Monday.
He has allowed only one earned run in 9.2 innings pitched this year and has a 0.98 ERA in 31 regular season big league games over parts of three seasons.
Crichton appeared in eight games for the Baltimore Orioles in 2017 but has no major league experience otherwise. He allowed 11 runs in 12.1 innings that year.
The 27-year-old has been in Reno the past two seasons and has a 4.18 ERA there this year in 20 appearances, all in relief. He has pitched 32.1 innings with a WHIP of 1.175. He came to the Arizona organization after he was traded from Baltimore for cash.
The D-backs’ 40-man roster is now at 39 players.
