Inside the Box: Drew gets big hit for D-backs

After every Arizona Diamondbacks game we’ll examine the
box score and provide you with instant analysis. So it’s
time to go Inside the Box for June 3, 2011: Diamondbacks 4, Nationals 0

The Arizona Diamondbacks evened their four-game series against the Washington Nationals with a 4-0 win on Friday night.

Starter Josh Collmenter was dominant shutting down the Nationals offense only allowing three hits in seven innings on the mound.

Since coming up to the Major Leagues, Collmenter has made it look easy compiling a 4-1 record with a miniscule 1.25 ERA.

If he’s able to continue fooling opposing offenses with his funky delivery, then Arizona may not have to make a trade for another starting pitcher like many have suggested.

Relievers David Hernandez and Joe Paterson came in and finished off the game for the D-backs.

Offensively, Chris Young got things going with a solo home run in the second inning.

However, it was Stephen Drew’s three-run triple that broke the game open for Arizona in the fifth inning.

Ryan Roberts continued his solid play getting two hits while serving as the team’s lead-off hitter.

Roberts has been getting the bulk of playing time at third base and look for that to continue as long as he continues to swing the bat so well.

Arizona (32-26) managed to stay just a half game back of division leader San Francisco who also won on Friday.
