Miguel Montero cancels vacation for All-Star game

Jul 11, 2011, 6:31 PM | Updated: 10:17 pm

Disneyland and southern California may sound like a perfect midsummer vacation, however the Monteros had to cancel their trip last minute when Miguel was informed Sunday he made the All-Star team.

“He called me yesterday and I was ready with my bathing suit and everything for the beach,” Vanessa Montero said. “He said don’t pack anything because we aren’t going. We are going to the All-Star game. He had to tell me twice and I cried. I cried like a baby I was so happy for him.”

Montero, who is hitting .272 with 10 home runs and 45 RBI was more than happy to cancel his vacation.

“I had plans already,” Montero said. “We were going to go to Laguna for a couple days and Disney for one other day, but it was easy to cancel.”

While the 2011 All-Star game has been criticized for the amount of players who have made the roster for various reasons, the pure elation and excitement in the voice of both Vanessa and Miguel Montero proves the All-Star game is still meaningful for some, especially the first timers.
