ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS

Kennedy-Hudson the next great Arizona Diamondbacks pitching duo?

Aug 9, 2011, 4:18 AM | Updated: 5:11 pm

The Arizona Diamondbacks have had some highly-esteemed pitching combinations in their short past and whispers are going around that they have found another in Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson.

With names like Curt Schilling, Randy Johnson, Dan Haren and Brandon Webb flying around, both Kennedy and Hudson could see themselves joining some D-backs of purple uniforms past, but Kennedy was quick to down play such talk on Sports 620 KTAR’s Gambo and Burns show on Monday.

“Those guys were just so dominant, to even bring up those names is an honor,” Kennedy said.

And Mr. Kennedy hit the nail on the head when he said “dominant”.

Kennedy and Hudson have combined for 25 wins this season and only 11 losses. Kennedy leads the NL in wins with 14.

Both of the young pitchers have been imposing on the mound and both struggled early. They seem to follow in one another’s footsteps, something they apparently joke about quite often.

“We have joked around before – around the All-Star break – we were pitching almost exactly the same,” Kennedy said.

If Kennedy and Hudson continue the trend, they could be the duo that leads them deep into the postseason. Who knows, maybe Hudson will close for Kennedy as the D-backs approach their second World Series.

Maybe another iconic photo of two Arizona pitching greats will be seen lifting the World Series trophy as co-MVPs.

Maybe.
