Diamondbacks have chance to prove themselves

Aug 16, 2011, 4:22 PM | Updated: 5:38 pm

The Arizona Diamondbacks are 68-53 and lead the NL West by two games, yet true believers are still tough to find.

That could change over the next two weeks.

The D-backs start a 10-game road trip Tuesday in Philadelphia, one that will take them from the City of Brotherly Love to Atlanta, before heading up to Washington to face the Nationals.

The Phillies, who are great, and the Braves, who are good, will provide a stiff test for a team that has feasted on some of baseball’s worst over the last few weeks.

“I think, for us, we can’t make enough of it,” D-backs play-by-play announcer Daron Sutton told Sports 620 KTAR’s Doug and Wolf about the road trip. “I think the key is, though, is Kirk Gibson is not [making a big deal of it]. It’s going to be a night-by-night preparation…I think the coaching staff understands how important it is to learn how to play in games like this, to understand to play under this kind of pressure.”
