Inside the Box for
October 2, 2011: Brewers 9, Diamondbacks 4

The Good:

In going down 0-2 in a playoff series it can be hard to find any good.

For the Arizona Diamondbacks the only good in their 9-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 2 was the ability to hit the long ball. Of their four runs, three home runs were hit. Paul Goldschmidt, Chris Young and Justin Upton were all able to take one deep.

Upton’s tied the game at 4 and would be the last time a Diamondback would cross the plate.

The Bad:

Daniel Hudson did it again. He gave up runs in the first inning. Before the first frame was over Ryan Braun had given the Brewers a 2-0 lead after he launched a ball over the center field fence.

Hudson has had problems early in games throughout the season and Sunday was no different.

The Ugly:

The ugly — and awful — was the bottom of the sixth inning for the Diamondbacks. The Brewers threw up a five spot after the Diamondbacks had tied it the previous inning.

Hudson was lifted for reliever Brad Ziegler. The sidearm thrower has had better days. He balked a runner to third base. On a squeeze play by the Brewers he threw the ball to the backstop and allowed the baserunners to circle the bases. After that he gave up three consecutive hits.

Ziegler never recorded an out. The game got out of hand quickly and the D-backs were never able to recover.
