Needing another catcher due to Miguel Montero’s injury, the
Arizona Diamondbacks have recalled catcher Konrad Schmidt
from Triple-A Reno.
The team has sent pitcher Patrick Corbin to Triple-A to make
room for Schmidt.
Schmidt, 27, hit .274 with three home runs and 14 RBI in 31
games for the Aces. He last played in the majors in 2010,
when he appeared in four games for the Diamondbacks, hitting
.125.
He’ll backup veteran Henry Blanco, who assumes the starting
role while Montero is out with a mild groin strain.
Corbin, one of the team’s top prospects, was 2-3 with a 5.27
ERA in five starts with the Diamondbacks. His spot in the
rotation will likely be filled when Daniel Hudson returns
from a stint on the DL, which should come Saturday against
the Brewers.
