Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but
we
all
know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a
baseball
game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you
with
the
analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ August 1
win over the Dodgers.
Final
score: Diamondbacks 4, Dodgers 0.

The Good:

The D-backs outscored the Dodgers by a whopping 19-4 margin in the series and completed their first three-game sweep at Chavez Ravine since August 2007.

Starter Patrick Corbin (3-4) rejoined the team Wednesday after getting recalled from Triple-A Reno and shined in his first start back in the majors.

The southpaw pitched six innings of shutout ball, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out five.

Third baseman Chris Johnson continued to impress, hitting his 10th home run of the season and second in three games since joining the D-backs.

Catcher Miguel Montero also had a big day with the bat, opening the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning against rookie hurler Stephen Fife (4-0) and added a two-run home run, his 13th of the season, in the eighth inning.

The Bad:

Left fielder Jason Kubel had a rare rough outing at the plate, going 0-for-4 on the day with two strikeouts.

He Said It:

Corbin said after the game he had trouble getting comfortable early but was able to find his groove as the game progressed.

“I came out kind of frustrated with my mechanics a little bit, leaving the ball up early in the game,” Corbin said. “Kind of settled down, [Montero] came out and just told me to stay back and I was able to locate all my pitches later in the game.”

Noted:

First baseman Paul Goldschmidt had a big series for the D-backs, going 8-for-11 with five RBIs, including two first-inning homers in each of the first two games.

The Dodgers designated 17-year veteran Bobby Abreu for assignment to make room for Shane Victorino, who the club acquired in a trade Tuesday with the Philadelphia Phillies.

Abreu, a two-time All-Star, was serving as the Dodgers’ part-time left fielder.

Coming Up:

The Diamondbacks will enjoy a much-needed day off Thursday before heading east to Philadelphia to open a three-game set against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Right-hander Ian Kennedy (9-8, 4.20) will get the nod for the D-backs in the series-opener Friday at 4:05 p.m. He will be opposed by right-hander Joe Blanton (8-9, 4.59 ERA).
