While Major League Baseball was staging their annual Home Run Derby prior to the All-Star Game in Cincinnati Monday night, their Triple-A brethren were doing the same in Omaha.
Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Peter O’Brien, an outfielder with the Reno Aces, put on a show in the first round of the competition, blasting 13 home runs out of Werner Park.
O’Brien advanced to the finals, but came up short against Dariel Alvarez of the Norfolk Tides by the final score of 6-5.
Third baseman Jamie Romak, also of the Aces, joined O’Brien in the competition, and finished with the third-highest total in the eight-player field. Two local high school players, Alex Bohm and Jack Kalina, also participated.
