Phoenix Suns reveal black Statement Edition jerseys for 2022-23

A black uniform will replace orange on the Phoenix Suns’ Statement Editon jerseys for the 2022-23 season.

The new alternate look was revealed Monday, showing and mixing of ideas from uniforms of the past.

At chest-level on the jerseys is a PHX logo that was at first part of the Suns’ look that debuted with the 2000-01 uniform changes. On the new uniforms revealed Tuesday, that logo will be white with thin outlines of varied sunset colors.

The neckline, armlines and numbers on the jerseys will take the pixelated color gradient look from the popular “The Valley” City Edition jerseys of the past two seasons. Those jerseys will no longer be part of Phoenix’s look.

However, that Valley motif, the Suns said in a release, is transitioning from the City Edition to the Statement Edition jerseys.

A bottom band of the shorts also has the pixelated look. A black “SUNS” lettering appears vertically on the pants that is outlined by the sunset color gradient of purple, orange and yellow.

Piping running vertically on the jerseys and shorts also carry the sunset gradient.

All NBA statement jerseys will include the Jordan Brand Jumpman logo on the right upper space instead of the Nike logo. The pants also feature the Jordan Brand logo.

The Suns have worn a similar black Statement Edition jersey in the past, but the PHX logo was gray, the numbering was orange and the piping around the neck and armholes were purple and orange. That edition went away after the 2018-19 season.

The 2022-23 Statement Edition jerseys join a set of uniforms that also includes a new Classic Edition version that remixes the popular sunburst logo jerseys that debuted in the early 1990s.

Phoenix’s previous orange Statement Edition uniforms included the older sunburst logo. The team debuted those in 2019.
