Report: Cardinals not interested in Bryant McKinnie

Nov 1, 2012, 3:41 PM | Updated: 4:55 pm

The NFL trade deadline hits Thursday at 1:00 p.m. Phoenix time, but it doesn’t look like the the Arizona Cardinals will be dealing for Baltimore Ravens veteran tackle Bryant McKinnie.

Earlier this week, speculation grew that McKinnie, a 33-year-old, 11-year veteran, could be a target for the Cardinals, who desperately need help at the tackle positions. Left tackle D’Anthony Batiste and rookie right tackle Bobby Massie have combined to allow 25 sacks this season, according to ProFootballFocus.com.

But Aaron Wilson, who covers the Baltimore Ravens for The Baltimore Sun, tweeted Thursday that a deal between the teams probably won’t happen, based on lack of interest from Arizona.

If Wilson’s report is true, the immediate question that arises is why?

Maybe the Cardinals are scared off by McKinnie’s age and mileage — he has played a lot of football. McKinnie had started 140 of a possible 144 games at left tackle for the Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens between 2003 and 2011 before losing his job this season. Michael Oher has settled into the Ravens’ left tackle position, while rookie Kelechi Osemele has solidified the right tackle spot.

Maybe they’re scared off by the recent reports that McKinnie is being sued by the father of a Miami rapper who claims the tackle owes him $375,000 he rung up a strip clubs.
