One day after being assigned to the Arizona Diamondbacks Arizona Fall League roster, left-handed pitcher Keith Hessler has been recalled to the majors from Triple-A Reno, adding even more depth to the team’s ailing bullpen.

Arizona is seeking fresh arms after trading Addison Reed to the Mets and watching the fatigued bullpen, including closer Brad Ziegler, allow four runs in the ninth inning of a 5-4 loss Monday.

Hessler made his major league debut on Aug. 8 against Cincinnati where he struck out two batters in one inning of work.

Despite not allowing a hit in his first two appearances with the Diamondbacks, Hessler watched his ERA skyrocket to 15.19 over his next six appearances after allowing nine earned runs off of 12 hits in 3.1 innings.

During his first big league stint, Hessler made eight appearances before being optioned back to Reno.

Through 51 minor league games in 2015, Hessler has an 2.14 ERA with 65 strikeouts and 15 walks over 59.0 innings.

Hessler was a 28th-round draft pick by the Diamondbacks in 2010 out of Coastal Carolina. The Diamondbacks failed to sign Hessler in 2010, but after going undrafted in 2011 Hessler signed a free agent contract with the Diamondbacks.
