Grand Canyon falls in CIT quarterfinals to Coastal Carolina

Grand Canyon University’s CollegeInsider.com Tournament run ended Wednesday with a 60-58 quarterfinal loss to Coastal Carolina.
Ryan Majerle’s three-point attempt with 0.7 seconds remaining missed, and the Antelopes finished the year 27-7 to put a close on Dan Majerle’s most successful of three years as head coach, which included its first two postseason victories.
Senior Grandy Glaze led GCU with 16 points on 8-of-13 shooting to go with 13 rebounds, while senior DeWayne Russell (10 points, four assists) and freshman Gerard Martin (11 points, three steals) also reached double-figures. Grand Canyon shot just 36 percent for the game, 19 percent (5-of-26) from three-point range and went 3-of-11 from the foul line in the loss.
The ‘Lopes closed the game with a dry-spell, taking a 58-52 lead before going scoreless for the remaining 3:37 of the second half and allowing Coastal Carolina to close on an 8-0 run.
Elijah Wilson led the Chanticleers with 16 points in their postseason victory.
GCU will enter its fourth season under Majerle and the final one under a probationary NCAA Tournament ban for 2016-17.
