Yasmany Tomas’ bat wakes up during series against Padres

Following the A.J. Pollock injury at the end of spring training, one of the key players to step up in his absence was Yasmany Tomas.
However, Tomas had been struggling at the plate to start the season, hitting 4-for-23 in seven games.
Apparently though, a change of scenery was all Tomas needed to break out his early season slump.
The 25-year-old had a batting average of .500 (7-of-14) in the three-game series against the San Diego Padres. Tomas brought the power in the series finale on Sunday, hitting two home runs in the team’s 7-3 win.
Tomas took full advantage of being slotted in the clean-up spot with David Peralta getting the day off. The outfielder went 3-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI, raising his season batting average to .297. Tomas finished all of 2015 with only nine home runs, recording his first homer on May 16 and second on June 10. He also did not have a multi-home run game all of last season.
His first home run of the game, and first of the season, came in the second inning with Phil Gosselin on base to give the Diamondbacks an early 2-0 lead.
Tomas’ second home run was part of Arizona’s two-run sixth inning, sending a solo shot to straight away center field.
The Diamondbacks win their first series of the year to improve their record to 5-8, and head to San Francisco to finish up the road trip. Arizona went 11-8 against the Giants last season.
