Diamondbacks first baseman Paul Goldschmidt is now a four-time All-Star.

The 28-year-old slugger was selected by a combination of NL skipper Terry Collins’ vote and player ballots to join the National League All-Star team on Tuesday as a reserve, joining the Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo, the NL’s starting first basemen, as well as the San Diego Padres’ Wil Myers.

Goldschmidt finished behind Rizzo — who was named the NL’s starting first baseman as the league’s leading vote-getter — in the All-Star voting.

Known by some as “America’s First Baseman,” Goldschmidt is batting .290 and slugging .508 this season. He shares the D-backs lead with 48 runs scored, and his 56 RBI are second-most on his team (behind Jake Lamb).

Among National League first basemen, Goldschmidt ranks third in average, third in RBI, first in walks (63), first in OBP (.416), second in OPS (.924), fifth in home runs (15), second in stolen bases (11) and second in hits (88).

This is the fourth time Goldschmidt hast been named to the NL All-Star team. Like this season, his first appearance in 2013 was as a reserve.

Last year, Goldy was the NL’s starter at first base in the All-Star game for the second straight year. He later went on to win the Gold Glove Award as the NL’s top defensive first baseman and place second in MVP voting for the second time in his career.

The All-Star Game will be played July 12 at Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres. First pitch is at 5 p.m. on FOX.
