The Arizona Cardinals cut quarterback Matt Barkley and have moved in a new direction by signing quarterbacks Aaron Murray and Zac Dysert to their practice squad.

The Cardinals officially announced the signings Tuesday morning.

Barkley signed with the Chicago Bears’ practice squad on Sunday, leaving Arizona to ink Murray, the former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, and former Miami Dolphins signal-caller Zac Dysert to their own practice squad, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Murray, the 2014 fifth-round draft pick out of Georgia, went unclaimed on waivers after being cut by the Chiefs. He has never appeared in an NFL game but played four years for the Bulldogs and had his best season as a junior in 2012 when he threw for 3,893 yards, 36 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

The Cardinals are Dysert’s sixth NFL team after being a seventh-round pick by the Broncos in 2013. He played four years at Miami (Ohio) and is the career passing leader there, breaking Ben Roethlisberger’s record for total passing yards (12,013).

After two years with the Broncos, Dysert has spent time on training camp rosters of the Bearsand Texans before joining the Bills’ practice squad. He received a future contract from the Dolphins in January.

Barkley had appeared in four games with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013 and 2014 after being picked in the fourth round of the 2013 draft. The Cardinals acquired him in September 2015 for a seventh-round draft pick in 2016.

Along with Murray, Arizona’s practice squad roster started filling out on Sunday.

After making cuts to finalize the 53-man roster, the Cardinals lost undrafted rookie safety Matthias Farley, who was picked up on the waiver wire by the Colts.

However, receivers Brittan Golden and Chris Hubert plus running back Elijhaa Penny announced on social media they had accepted practice squad invites with the Cardinals.
