Duke transfer Chase Jeter announced via social media he will play for the Arizona Wildcats after sitting out the 2017-18 season per NCAA rules.

The 6-foot-10 forward averaged 2.6 points and 2.7 rebounds per game in limited action last season, his sophomore year, before he underwent surgery in January to fix a herniated disk.

“Chase has been an outstanding young man in our program for the last two years,” Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a news release. “He has been one of our top academic performers since he arrived on campus. Unfortunately, he was held back this season due to injury. We wish nothing but the absolute best for Chase and his family.”

A McDonald’s All-American out of high school, Jeter chose Duke over Arizona, Kansas, Oregon, UNLV and UCLA. He was considering several West Coast schools as transfer destinations before picking the Wildcats.

While Jeter will be able to practice with Arizona next season, he will debut for UA next year along with a 2018 recruiting class that currently includes 5-star small forward Emmanuel Akot and 4-star power forward Shareef O’Neal.
