New ASU head coach Herm Edwards gets emotional farewell from ESPN

Before Herm Edwards heads to Tempe to take over head coaching duties at Arizona State, he still had one thing left to do.

Finish his final day at ESPN.

“I won’t say goodbye, I’ll say thank you,” Edwards said during an emotional sendoff with co-workers Tedy Bruschi and Suzy Kolber.

The folks at ESPN weren’t about to let the nine-year analyst walk out the doors in Bristol, Conn. without a proper sendoff.

“I’ve been in millions of people’s homes, and hopefully I’ve served this company with great integrity, and my intention was always to make football better,” Edwards said. “Now I’ll have the opportunity to go back on the grass as they call it, and mold some good football players into some young men and hopefully have a lot of success down there.

“You’ve given me a platform to talk about the game I love, and it’s called football. We all benefit from it when it’s played right and it’s coached right. I promise you, I will give all my effort to get that done at Arizona State.”

ESPN didn’t stop there as a special message for Edwards played from his wife and two daughters, thanking ESPN for the opportunity and also asking him for a new puppy.

ESPN host Trey Wingo finished off the teary goodbye wearing an ASU shirt, while showcasing an ASU helmet and flags.
