The Pac-12 announced Friday that Arizona State basketball head coach Bobby Hurley would be reprimanded following his comments made about the officiating during the Sun Devils’ loss at Colorado.

Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott released a statement regarding Hurley’s comments, saying that the conference has “established rules that prohibit our coaches from publicly commenting about officiating.

“We have an obligation to our members to enforce approved Conference rules,” he added. “As a part of our officiating program, there is a protocol in place for our coached to provide feedback directly to the coordinator of officials.”

Hurley’s comments about the officiating crew came after the Sun Devils were upset by Colorado on Thursday.

The play in question involved sophomore forward Mickey Mitchell in the paint.

With less than a minute remaining in overtime, and the Sun Devils down by three points to the Buffaloes, Mitchell was called for his fifth foul after attempting to steal the ball from Colorado’s George King.

King had gathered the rebound and lifted the ball above his head, where Mickey attempted to take it from but resulted in him fouling out of the game.

Hurley called the call a “complete joke,” which then resulted in the reprimand.

“As a three-point game, to make that call at that stage of the game is one of the worst things I have seen,” Hurley added. “It was still a one possession game, it was three points. We were about to retain possession of the ball, it was clearly not a foul and shouldn’t have been whistled as such.”

The loss for the Sun Devils was their second in Pac-12 play, dropping their conference record to 0-2 and 12-2 overall.
