The Arizona Diamondbacks and Milwaukee Brewers were at one point in “extensive talks” regarding D-backs starting pitcher Patrick Corbin, reports FanRag Sports’ Jon Heyman.

Heyman adds that the Brewers are one of many teams Arizona has spoken with regarding Corbin, the left-handed pitcher who earlier in January signed to a one-year deal with the D-backs to avoid arbitration.

Corbin’s name first came up in trade talks during the MLB Winter Meetings.

Then, the New York Yankees reportedly had interest in the Diamondbacks’ starter.

Of late, Milwaukee has appeared interested in adding impact starters as it completes a rebuild. That was set into motion last week when the Brewers acquired outfielder Christian Yelich from the Miami Marlins and signed free agent outfielder Lorenzo Cain.

For the D-backs, Corbin went 14-13 in 2017 with a 4.03 ERA. The 28-year-old made 33 appearances in his second full season back after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2015.

He could be viewed as a tradeable piece due to the emergence of Zack Godley, the eventual return of fellow starter Shelby Miller from Tommy John surgery and the potential that reliever Archie Bradley pitches his way into the starting rotation this spring.
