Jon Rahm hits the unluckiest shot of the Waste Management Phoenix Open

After playing collegiate golf at Arizona State, Jon Rahm couldn’t get a hometown bounce in the opening round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
On the second hole at TPC Scottsdale, Rahm took his approach shot about 100 yards from the green. Using his wedge, Rahm showed accidental precision with a shot that landed directly on top of playing partner Xander Schauffele’s ball.
According to PGA rules, Schauffele was permitted to place his ball as close to its original spot while Rahm played his from where the ball landed. Prior to the collision, it appeared Rahm would have an easy try for a birdie.
Despite the incident, the No. 2 player in the world was able to salvage for par.
