D-backs sign pitcher Jorge De La Rosa to minor league contract

Feb 16, 2018, 9:50 AM

The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed left-handed pitcher Jorge De La Rosa to a minor league deal, the team announced Friday.

The deal includes an invitation to spring training.

In 2017, De La Rosa went 3-1 for the Diamondbacks, posting a 4.21 ERA along with 45 strikeouts in 65 games.

De La Rosa entered the Big Leagues in 2004 with the Milwaukee Brewers, where he spent two seasons before splitting the 2006 season with the Brewers and Kansas City Royals.

In 2008 he was acquired by the Colorado Rockies, where he spent nine seasons, becoming the Rockies’ all-time winningest pitcher with a record of 86-61 and an ERA of 4.35.

This is the second year in a row the 35-year-old has been signed by the Diamondbacks to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to spring training.

Diamondbacks pitchers and catchers reported for their first workout on Wednesday, with the first full team workout scheduled for Monday, Feb. 19.
