The Cleveland Browns have a quarterback controversy, and it’s not involving first overall pick Baker Mayfield.

It’s instead a question of whether the starting quarterback to start the 2018 season will be known as “TIE-rod” Taylor or “Tuh-rod” Taylor.

On Friday, Cleveland’s PR staff put out a request for media members to begin pronouncing Tyrod Taylor’s first name as “Tuh-rod (NOT TY-rod).”

To get to the nitty gritty of this, let’s start at the beginning of the controversy. We begin with this tweet on Monday, in which Taylor’s teammate, Joel Bitonio, revealed that the quarterback’s name has been mispronounced.

A Browns staffer confirmed the tuh-rrible tuh-ruth before NFL Network reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala sent her tweet.

This gets weird because apparently Taylor isn’t the only one not revealing the correct pronunciation of his name. And he’s not helping the cause by referring to himself as “TIE-rod.”

NFL Network took tabs on who called Tyrod “TIE-rod” versus “tuh-rod.” It’s a lot to take in.

The crazy thing is Tyrod isn’t even super confident about how to pronounce his name.

“‘TIE-rod’ is definitely what I’ve heard most of my life,” he said Friday upon taking the very tough journalism questions. “My mom calls me ‘tuh-rod’ but she also doesn’t call me by my first name.”

What does she call him?

Di’allo, his middle name.

Now that this is still not settled, let’s see how Twitter handled such controversy.
