An MRI revealed that Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jarrod Dyson suffered a left oblique strain, pushing back his start to spring training.

“We feel like in the grand scheme of things that’s just normal down time, recuperation, a little bit of rest (needed). He’s not going to miss a big chunk of time,” manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Tuesday.

The outfielder is expected to miss “not days, maybe a week before he gets on his return-to-play program,” the training staff told Lovullo. If that’s the case, Dyson is expected to be ready by the start of the regular season, which begins March 28 at the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Dyson, who is expected to be a center fielder along with transitioning infielder Ketel Marte, has dealt with a series of injuries over the last three seasons.

He suffered a lower core muscle injury on July 4 that ended his 2018 campaign. In September of 2017, he underwent sports hernia surgery as a member of the Seattle Mariners.
