Arizona basketball will benefit next season from the talents of grad transfer guard Max Hazzard, who will come over from UC Irvine, Stadium’s Jeff Goodman reported Tuesday.

Hazzard will be eligible to play, 247Sports reported, adding that the Los Angeles native considered California, Gonzaga, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and TCU.

“Obviously, it’s Arizona,” Hazzard told 247Sports. “They call it a players program for a reason. They were down this past year and I like my chances to come in and fulfilling a big role and hopefully getting them back to Arizona basketball, where they belong.”

Hazzard played three years for UC Irvine and last season shot 41.2% from the field, 38.8% from three and averaged 12.5 points, 2.1 assists and 2.0 rebounds per game.

Before arriving on campus at Irvine, Hazzard was a three-star recruit from Loyola High School. His brother, Jacob Hazzard, is a former walk-on guard who played four years at Arizona.

He’ll join an Arizona team whose recruiting class ranked second in the nation behind Duke, according to 247Sports. Five-star prospects Nico Mannion and Josh Green headline a class that also includes four-stars Zeke Nnaji and Terry Armstrong and three-star prospect Christian Koloko.
