University of Arizona and Operation Hat Trick team up to aid local veterans

Nov 19, 2019, 3:02 PM | Updated: 3:45 pm

The University of Arizona and Operation Hat Trick are partnering with the Tucson VA and the Arizona Fisher House to fill the gaps and care for local veterans through the sale of military-themed merchandise.

Items up for sale include University of Arizona-themed camo sweatshirts, jackets, t-shirts, mugs and hats.

Since 2014, Operation Hat Trick merchandise and community giving have resulted in the donation of $1.3 million dollars to various organizations that help veterans recover from the visible and invisible wounds of war, according to the official website.

Launched in 2008, the 501(c)(3) organization has paid for adaptive equipment for amputees, service dogs, shoes for prosthetic legs, critical care and emergency rent, just to name a few.

The University of Arizona is just one of 350 universities and colleges, 165 high schools, 21 NHL teams, 15 NBA teams, 80 minor league baseball teams and more than 100 companies that Operation Hat Trick partners with.

Operation Hat Trick stickers will make an appearance on University of Arizona Wildcats helmets during the team’s final home game of the season against #7 Utah on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 8 p.m.

The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) Fisher House is a residence for loved ones of veterans or active duty personnel receiving inpatient care from the Tucson VA. According to the official website, the facility depends on donations to support its programs.

Items available for purchase can be viewed here.
