ESPN analyst Jim Bowden gave the Arizona Diamondbacks a
grade of A- for the business they did in the offseason.
In a piece for ESPN Insider,
Bowden said the D-Backs “might have had the best offseason
of any midlevel market team in terms of undervalued free-
agent signings and trades.”
Big acquisitions for Arizona were pitchers Trevor Cahill,
Craig Breslow and Takashi Saito, who will be used to
strengthen the already solid bullpen, and Bowden also
mentioned that the re-signing of Joe Saunders allows the
team to develop top pitching prospects in the minor leagues.
Other key transactions noted were the signings of Jason
Kubel, Aaron Hill, Henry Blanco, Willie Bloomquist and Lyle
Overbay.
Bowden, who was a senior vice president and GM for the Cincinnati Reds and Washington Nationals, said that the
Diamondbacks “should be favorites to repeat in the NL West.”
