A closer look: D-backs fall to Dodgers in series opener

Jul 6, 2012, 4:18 AM | Updated: 2:53 pm

Sure, you could read the box score and know who won,
but we all
know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a
baseball
game. So, we will give you a closer look, providing you
with the
analysis, quotes and notes from the D-backs’ July 5 loss
against
Los Angeles. Final score: Dodgers 4,
Diamondbacks 1
.

The Good:

Justin Upton was cheered by the fans after having a solid
outing, going 2-for-4 on the night.

Arizona snapped an eight game streak of at least one error
by posting a zero in that column of the box score tonight.

The Bad:

The D-backs are on their longest losing streak of the
season at six games, and it is their longest since late
August of last year.

The team snapped its streak of 15 straight games with a
home run, as they failed to hit a long ball tonight.

With the loss the Snakes are now seven games back of the
Dodgers in the NL West, and are now four games under .500.

The Ugly:

Wade Miley is 0-2 with a 10.45 ERA in his last two
starts.

Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen entered the game and struck
out the side in the ninth inning, putting any hopes of a
D-backs’ rally to bed with authority.

He Said it:

“I thought he did a heck of a job to get that far,” Kirk
Gibson said of Wade Miley, “his pitch count was run up,
and I left him out there to try and get him the win.”

Coming Up Next:

The Diamondbacks have Josh Collmenter on the mound to take
on Clayton Kershaw at Chase Field Friday night.
