Arizona Cardinals first-round selection D.J. Humphries has only been in the fold for just more than a month, but he has already made an impression on Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin.

Humphries, the No. 24 overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft on April 30, has been “impressive” thus far in the organized team activities and minicamps, Goodwin told Doug & Wolf on Arizona Sports 98.7 FM Tuesday.

“He’s come along,” Goodwin said. “It’s a typical deal. You have a rookie, and we’re throwing so much information at him right now that he’s trying to process it all. He’s starting to get it.”

Humphries, a 6-foot-5, 315 pound offensive tackle from Florida, will have to deal with a learning curve due to the spread offenses that dominate college football, Goodwin said.

“One of the things I look down upon is college football, so many spread offenses, they don’t really teach them football like we did growing up, as far as concepts and that nature,” Goodwin said. “This is the first time they’re hearing concepts, this is the first time they’re talking about defenses.

“In college football they’re taught to block to look. We’re a little bit more technical than that.”

Humphries is the second major addition to the Cardinals offensive line this offseason, as Arizona signed former San Francisco 49ers guard Mike Iupati to a five-year, $40 million contract with $22.5 million guaranteed in free agency.

“That’s a massive man,” Goodwin said of Iupati. “I think twice about yelling at him.”

Humphries is expected to compete with Bobby Massie for the starting right tackle position this season after signing his four-year, $9.8 million rookie contract on June 1.
