It’s looking like the Arizona Wildcats will be starting the football season without a key weapon as games are set to kick off in just a month.

On Monday, Arizona held its media day for the upcoming 2021-22 season with training camp starting on Friday.

First year head coach Jedd Fisch discussed a number of things, including the wide receiver room and the health of redshirt junior Jamarye Joiner.

“I think we have a pretty good idea whose going to be our starting three receivers,” Fisch said. “Give-and-take, we’ll compete a little bit and see where Jamarye’s health is.”

One of the Wildcats leading returners in the receiver room, Joiner had surgery at the end of April for a Jones fracture in his left foot.

Joiner was also in attendance at media day and said he’s at about “70% health.”

Should he be back by Week 3, Joiner would be ready just in time for the Wildcats Pac-12 opener the following week on the road against Oregon.

The Tucson native played all five games in the shortened 2020 season, catching 12 passes for 111 yards and one score.

However, Joiner was a bright spot for the Wildcats offense in 2019 as the team’s leading receiver with 34 catches, 552 yards and five touchdowns.

The Wildcats kick off their 2021-22 season on Sept. 4 against BYU in Las Vegas.
