Arizona Diamondbacks top prospect and No. 6 overall draft pick in 2021 Jordan Lawlar is out for the season with a shoulder injury, D-backs farm director Josh Barfield told AZCentral’s Nick Piecoro.

Just two games into his MLB career, Lawlar was diagnosed with a posterior labrum tear and will undergo surgery sometime in the next 10 days, Barfield said.

The 19-year-old shortstop was playing in the Arizona Complex League where he recorded two hits and a stolen base in five at-bats.

The timetable for Lawlar’s return is to be around seven months, Barfield said.

Lawlar joins fellow top-two prospect Corbin Carroll with a season-ending injury as Carroll also had surgery to repair tears in his non-throwing shoulder.

Lawlar currently ranks as the No. 13 prospect in the MLB.com top 100 prospects, where Carroll comes in at No. 21.

Alek Thomas (No. 42) joins them as the three D-backs that appear in the top 100 list.

The two injured players were unlikely to appear in the majors during the 2021 season.
