Kyler Murray expected to call plays during 4th quarter of Cardinals-Bengals

Aug 12, 2022, 4:41 PM

Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is expected to hand over play-calling duties to quarterback Kyler Murray in the fourth quarter of the team’s first preseason matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Arizona’s pregame show.

Murray, who is not playing in Friday’s matchup, has been seen over multiple days of training camp calling the offense.

It’s a way for Murray to stay involved with the offense despite being eased back into things after experiencing a sore wrist and testing positive for COVID-19. Kingsbury is hopeful the signal caller can get back into a regular practice routine next week.

As for what his head coach thinks of the signal caller’s play-calling abilities?

“He was coaching them up like right until the last second, like while they’re trying to throw he’d be saying stuff, so I probably won’t do that again,” Kingsbury said.

“He did a good job. It’s just I would not want to play for Kyler Murray if I was a quarterback and he was the coach,” the head coach added.

Murray will likely be sending in calls to quarterback Jarrett Guarantano with signal caller Trace McSorley getting the start in Cincinnati.
