Saturday night was full of firsts at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum in the Arizona State Sun Devils’ 42-25 loss to the No. 6 USC Trojans.

After quarterback Emory Jones threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to running back Xazavian Valladay on ASU’s opening drive, it marked the first time the team had scored a touchdown on its opening drive this season.

It was also the first time the Sun Devils scored a TD in the first quarter this year.

Arizona State’s (1-4, 0-2 Pac-12) defense got in on the action in the second half with an interception, the first for USC (5-0, 3-0) quarterback Caleb Williams on the season.

Sun Devils cornerback Timarcus Davis caught the corner route fade pass with teammate Jordan Clark also in coverage.

Unfortunately for ASU, though, the offense wasn’t able to capitalize on USC’s only turnover in the ballgame.

The Sun Devils struggled to stop Williams all night, as the Trojans quarterback finished 27-for-37 (73%) for 348 passing yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

He also added 44 rushing yards and a score on eight carries for an average of 5.5 per rush.
