Sure, you could read the box score and know who won, but we all know that won’t tell you everything that happened in a football game. So, we will give you a fork report, providing you with the analysis, quotes and notes from ASU’s win over Colorado. Final score: Arizona State 51, California 17.

The Good:

Two words: Taylor Kelly. The redshirt sophomore was the picture of efficiency Thursday night, completing 20 of 28 passes for 308 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. In Pac-12 play, Kelly has thrown for 11 touchdowns and has yet to throw an interception.

The second half effort by Arizona State was dominating. The Sun Devils led only 20-17 at the break, but Rashad Ross set the tone for what was to come in the next 30 minutes by returning the second half kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown. In all, ASU outscored Colorado 31-0 in the second half.

ASU rolled up nearly 600 yards of offense (593) with 261 of that coming on the ground.

The Bad:

Todd Graham constantly stresses the importance of taking care of the football, but they lost the turnover battle Thursday. The Sun Devils lost two fumbles, and again they were committed by seniors. Jamal Miles fumbled on a punt return right before halftime. Colorado recovered and kicked a field goal to pull to within three. Running back Cameron Marshall lost a fumble in the second half as well.

He Said It:

“It was ugly in the first half but nobody panicked,” head coach Todd Graham said. “I was really proud with how they responded (in the second half).”

Noted:

The Sun Devils improved to 4-0 all-time against Colorado.

ASU’s 593 yards of offense was their season-high. It was also the second-most given up by Colorado this season. Fresno State gained 665 yards on the Buffaloes in a 69-14 win on September 15.

Coming Up Next:

The Sun Devils host No. 2 Oregon (6-0) next Thursday, October 18. The game will be televised on ESPN.
