San Francisco Giants’ Angel Pagan takes matters in his own hands

Oct 1, 2016, 4:21 PM

We see it all the time in sports, a fan, (mostly alcohol induced) decides to try and get his or her’s 15 seconds of fame by running on the field.

Most of the time, these incidents go fairly unnoticeable as producers have decided long ago to not glorify these knuckleheads. Instead for the fans in attendance, they are treated by the person showing off their best David Johnson impersonation as they try to evade police and other security officers.

However, every now and then they do get noticed, as was the case Friday when San Francisco Giants’ outfielder Angel Pagan decided to take matters into his own hands.

In the fourth inning of the Giants’ 9-3 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, Pagan body-slammed a male fan in left field after he ran onto the field offering white paper flowers.

Unsure of what the man’s true intentions were and realizing that security was having issues getting to the man, Pagan decided to do something to slow the fan down.

“I was just trying to protect myself and protect my teammates. The guy was getting closer to my teammates,” Pagan said. “I guess it was very explosive. Us athletes, we’ve got that kind of strength. …It worked.”

Buster Posey earlier shoved the man to the ground. Pagan, who held the man down until security reached him, received a roaring ovation from the sellout crowd when the half-inning ended and tipped his cap.

“That’s just weird. Anytime somebody comes on the field you’re a little bit uneasy,” Posey said. “He probably should’ve been charged with a flop.”
