Two seasons ago, University of Arizona junior quarterback Anu Solomon was coming off a 28-touchdown, 3,793-yard debut freshman season, leading the team to a 10-4 record and an appearance in the Fiesta Bowl.

The Wildcats entered the 2015 season ranked No. 22 in the AP Poll, with the program on the upswing.

Now, after inconsistencies and injuries have plagued the 22-year-old, he will not see out his senior year at Arizona, where the team has won as many games in the past two seasons (10) as they did in Solomon’s first season.

I first want to take this opportunity to thank Arizona Football for making me the man I am today, especially Coach Rodriquez & the Rodriguez family, Greg Byrne, the entire administration and staff, and of course the die-hard fans for absolutely everything to make my past 4 years at The University of Arizona worthwhile and unforgettable. God has a plan for me. I’ve prayed for direction, patience, and knowledge to know when it comes, and it is with a heavy heart to announce that I am transferring from The University of Arizona. Through much adversity, I will never forget those who supported me, stuck by me, and believed in me; God, my family, my girlfriend, and close friends. From highs and lows, and the unlucky injuries I suffered from the past 2 seasons, I am blessed to have a fresh start at another program to finish out my senior year. Thank you Tucson, & GOD BLESS! At this time I will be focusing on spending the holiday season with my family and ask for privacy as we decide on the next step in my college career.

Solomon was never able to find the form from his stellar freshman season. He, along with junior running back Nick Wilson, had optimism sky-high in Tucson, but the two have been unable to overcome injuries.

Since starting all 14 games his freshman season, Solomon has played in 16 games the past two seasons, including just five in 2016. Solomon started two of those games this past season and finished only the opener, an 18-16 loss to BYU.

Sophomore quarterback Brandon Dawkins had the starting quarterback position for nine games. He was the MVP in Arizona’s 56-35 win in the Territorial Cup against Arizona State. True freshman Khalil Tate is the only other quarterback on the Arizona roster, but Rodriguez is bringing in two freshmen next season, including his son, Rhett.

The belief is Solomon will graduate and be eligible right away.
