UA’s Waldrop to enter College Football Hall of Fame

A member of Arizona’s “Desert Swarm” defense, Rob Waldrop was a winner of the Bednarik, Nakurski and Outland trophies during his final year in school.
Now, nearly 20 years later, he will be known for another accomplishment: being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Waldrop, a consensus All-America in 1992, claimed unanimous All-America accolates the following year as a senior. He was the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year in 1993 and was a key cog in a defense that allowed just 30.1 rushing yards per game in 1993.
Waldrop finished his career with 171 tackles, 22.5 sacks and 45 tackles for loss, and helped carry Arizona to three bowl games, one of which was a 29-0 win over No. 10 Miami in the Fiesta Bowl.
Waldrop joins 13 other players and two coaches as part of the 2011 HOF class, which includes Ohio State star Eddie George, Miami great Russell Maryland and Florida State’s Deion Sanders.
