On a day when two top-10 teams were upset on the road by unranked opponents, the No. 7 Arizona Wildcats could not prevent becoming the third. No. 2 Duke went down against North Carolina State, No. 4 Wisconsin fell to Rutgers and Arizona lost a heartbreaker to Oregon State.

The Wildcats (14-2) got off to a sluggish start, taking a one-point lead into halftime. Neither team looked slow in the second half however, as the back-and-forth affair ended with thrilling buckets on both sides and ultimately a Beavers 58-56 win.

Beavers guard Langston Morris-Walker put in the game-winning layup with 28 seconds to play to improve his team’s record to 11-4.

An improbable win made even more so by the fact Oregon State has not defeated a team ranked in the top 10 since 2000. Its last victory over a top-10 team — March 2000 against these same Wildcats.

After starting the season 12-0, Arizona has lost two of its last four games. Sunday’s loss drops them to 2-1 in Pac-12 play (they went 15-3 in the conference last season).

Here’s how the Wildcats lost their second game of the season, by the numbers:

6

Guard T.J. McConnell and forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson were Arizona’s best players. Each grabbed six rebounds. Hollis-Jefferson scored a team-high 14 points while McConnell had a team-high six assists to go along with his 13 points.

7

Arizona’s loss snapped a seven-game winning streak against Oregon State. The two teams meet again, this time in Tucson, on Jan. 30.

10-0

The Beavers improved to 10-0 at home this season. Oregon State is off to a surprisingly good start and their sensational home record is a big reason why. Undefeated at home, the Beavers make up for the fact they are a lowly 1-4 away from Corvallis.

23

Before Sunday’s victory, Oregon State had lost 23 consecutive games against top-10 teams, including 10 times to Arizona, dating back to 2000.

29

Coming into the game, Arizona had spent 29 consecutive weeks ranked in the top 10, the longest active streak in the country. This loss will almost surely knock the Wildcats down into the teens in the next set of rankings.

37.8

The Wildcats really struggled from the field throughout Sunday’s game. Shooting just 26 percent in the first half, Arizona ended the night shooting 37.8 percent overall and 23.5 percent from 3. Oregon State shot 51.3 percent overall and 45.5 percent from beyond the arc.
