Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was announced Monday as one of eight finalists for the NFL’s inaugural NFL Sportsmanship Award.

The winner of the award will be determined by a vote of NFL players and will be announced during the 4th Annual NFL Honors show Jan. 31 on NBC. The winner will be presented with a trophy, along with a $25,000 donation to the charity of his choice from the NFL Foundation.

The award will be presented annually to the NFL player who best demonstrates the qualities of on-field sportsmanship, including fair play, respect for the game and opponents, and integrity in competition.

Each NFL team nominated one of its players for the award. A panel of former players from the NFL Legends Community — Warrick Dunn, Curtis Martin, Karl Mecklenburg and Leonard Wheeler — determined the finalists.

The other award finalists are Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis, Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway, Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, Denver Broncos defensive end DeMarcus Ware, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith, Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson and New England Patriots wide receiver and special-teams player Matthew Slater.
