D-backs getting into reality television
Oh good, just what we need…another reality show.
This one, at least, has a baseball theme to it and will involve the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The name of the show is The Next Knuckler, and it will feature five former college and pro quarterbacks trying to learn the art of the knuckleball from former MLB All-Star Tim Wakefield in hopes of getting an invitation to spring camp from the D-backs.
No word on whether the winner of the event will then be traded by GM Kevin Towers in exchange for a light-hitting shortstop (insert rimshot sound effect here).
The five participants are former Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie, USC’s John David Booty, LSU’s Josh Booty, David Greene of Georgia and LSU and Jacksonville State’s Ryan Perrilloux. The winner will get the chance to pitch for Arizona in a Cactus League game.
“We look forward to being featured on The Next Knuckler and giving an opportunity to one of these top-flight athletes to come to Spring Training with the D-backs,” said D-backs President and CEO Derrick Hall. “With a knuckleball, you never know what kind of success a pitcher will have and that’s part of the intrigue for our franchise to take part in this reality show.”
The Next Knuckler will premiere Wednesday, February 13 at 9:00 ET on MLB Network, and we’re quite certain it’ll be better than anything on MTV.
