The student is apparently on equal footing with the master.
On Saturday, Los Angeles Lakers guard Steve Nash posted a photo to his Instagram account of himself and Phoenix Suns guard Goran Dragic. Both were teammates for almost three years in Dragic’s first stint with the Suns.
“The Dragon” came into the league under Nash’s tutelage as a 22-year-old rookie. Although the two point guards have quite different skillsets, Dragic learned much from Nash and eventually learned to be a team leader as well. In his sixth NBA season, Dragic was named the league’s Most Improved Player as he led the 48-34 Suns with 20.3 points and 5.9 assists per game while shooting better than 50 percent from the floor.
Nash, 40, only played in 15 contests last season with Los Angeles and posted his lowest points-per-game average (6.8) since his rookie year in Phoenix, but the two-time MVP has little left to prove in his storied career.
The 18-year veteran has been in Dragic’s home country of Slovenia, and Nash’s Instragram picture shows the two of them at either a basketball camp or practice. It appears Saturday was his last in the Eastern European county. He called Dragic a “Slovenian rock star” in the photo’s caption.
Looks like he’s quite content with the proverbial torch being passed to the current Suns star.
