Arizona QB Brandon Dawkins leaving program, will be a graduate transfer

Feb 22, 2018, 7:28 PM | Updated: 7:32 pm

University of Arizona quarterback Brandon Dawkins announced Thursday he will be leaving the program as a graduate transfer.

In his Wildcat career, Dawkins completed 188 of his 334 passes (56.3 percent) for 2,418 yards, 15 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He made more of an impact on the ground, where he rushed for 1,582 yards and 20 touchdowns.

The redshirt senior for this upcoming season made starts for the Wildcats in each of the last two seasons, most notably in the 2016 Territorial Cup, a 56-35 Arizona win. Dawkins, the MVP of the game, rushed for 183 yards and two touchdowns and also threw for one in that game.

The departure of Dawkins leaves no experience behind star junior Khalil Tate on the depth chart. True sophomore Rhett Rodriguez and a pair of redshirt freshmen, K’hari Lane and Andrew Tovar, are on the roster.

They also have two quarterbacks in their 2018 recruiting class, Jamarye Joiner and Kevin Doyle. Both are three-star recruits.
