Guys, did you know that preseason baseball includes live, in-game interviews? We’re talking about interviews with the athletes that are actually playing in the game — like literally, right now.
The Boston Red Sox mic’d up outfielder Mookie Betts against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday while he was standing in the outfield. Cubs slugger Kris Bryant lined a ball in Betts’ direction mid-interview, and that’s when the beauty of this thing comes into shape.
Betts gets a decent jump on the ball but as he’s sprinting continues his interview with ESPN.
“I ain’t getting this one, boys,” he says as he attempts to meet the ball in the outfield corner.
At another point in the interview, Betts stood in the outfield and showed off his golf swing.

What have we learned here? In-game interviews with outfielders need to become mandatory.
Based on MLB’s urgency in locking in its pace-of-play rules, this unfortunately doesn’t seem like it’ll be a regular part of the game anytime soon.
