Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Patrick Corbin earned the National League Player of the Week honor for his two performances that included a one-hit shutout of the San Francisco Giants last Tuesday.

Corbin allowed a check-swing single by Brandon Belt that broke up a no-hit bid 7.2 innings into his game, but the left-hander finished the outing in 100 pitches as Arizona won at home, 1-0.

He followed that performance with another strong game Sunday in a 4-2 win over the San Diego Padres.

Corbin went 6.0 innings and struck out 11 batters at Chase Field.

He allowed two hits both to Padres infielder Christian Villanueva, who hit a two-run homer for his team’s only runs on the afternoon. Corbin even added an RBI single to give himself a 4-0 buffer in the fourth frame.

For the week, Corbin went 2-0 with a 1.20 ERA, 0.33 WHIP and 19 strikeouts in 13.0 innings.

On the season, he is 4-0 with a 1.89 ERA in five starts. Corbin leads MLB with 48 strikeouts and is fourth with a WHIP of 0.66.

Major League Baseball also recognized two AL Players of the Week: Orioles third baseman Manny Machado went 11-for-22 with five home runs and eight RBI, and Oakland A’s pitcher Sean Manaea threw a no-hitter against the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.
