The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled reliever Jake Barrett from Triple-A Reno on Friday to give a fatigued bullpen a boost, reports 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro.

The team optioned reliever Silvino Bracho to Triple-A after Thursday night’s game, making room for Barrett.

Barrett, 26, didn’t win a bullpen spot to start the season with the D-backs after walking five, allowing six hits and giving up two earned runs in five spring appearances.

In 12 games with Reno since, he has gone 14.2 innings while allowing just five hits and two earned runs for a 1.23 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .106 against him in the Pacific Coast League.

The move is part of Arizona’s pitching staff maneuvers leading into the weekend that will wrap a four-game series against the Washington Nationals.

The Diamondbacks were expected to recall starting pitcher Troy Scribner to start on Saturday.

Arizona’s pitching staff has been taxed due to losing starters Taijuan Walker and Robbie Ray to injury.

In the bullpen, arms are also becoming weary after a 12-inning game at Los Angeles on Tuesday and an 11-inning outing Thursday against the Nationals.
