Eight-year-old throws first pitch at D-backs’ game using 3-D-printed hand

Jul 21, 2018, 6:14 PM | Updated: 10:02 pm

It was a big night at Chase Field for a special eight-year-old girl.

Hailey Dawson not only got to hang out with members of Arizona Diamondbacks before the game — clearly working on their handshake game and dance moves — but she got to throw out the first pitch as well.

Dawson was born with a rare disease called Poland Syndrome, which resulted in her missing a right pectoral muscle and three middle fingers and having an underdeveloped thumb and pinky finger. It causes birth defects in one out of every 200,000 births.

But that isn’t stopping Dawson from accomplishing her goals.

She is on a country-wide mission to throw out the first pitch at all 30 MLB ballparks, which also included a puck drop during a Las Vegas Golden Knights game and a first pitch at Game 4 of the 2017 World Series.

Chase Field marks No. 22, with just eight to go.
