PHOENIX – Arizona Diamondbacks legends took the field before Saturday’s game in the annual intersquad Alumni Game.
This year, Team Red led by coach Curt Schilling defeated Randy Johnson’s Team Purple in the three-inning exhibition game by a score of 1-0.
Luis Gonzalez, Steve Finley, Tony Womack, and Miguel Montero were among the names donning the old school Purple & Teal. Willie Bloomquist, JJ Putz, Erubiel Druazo, and David Dellucci were just some of the alumni wearing Sedona Red.
Who wants to be the one to tell @miggymont26 we don’t have replay tech in the Alumni Game? #GenerationDBacks pic.twitter.com/TOnRUHbwAz

On a day where we saw Brandon Webb start the game for Team Red, pitch 0.2 innings of hitless baseball and then play left field, this game was once again a fun way for the D-backs to celebrate their past players and heroes for the contributions they’ve made to this team’s 20-year history.
“I didn’t want to embarrass myself on the mound and I embarrassed myself in left field.”

And we also got to see that Gonzo can still hit against the shift. He led Team Purple, going 2-2.
The MVP of the day was Chris Snyder for Team Red, who was 2-2 and drove in Augie Ojeda as the winning — and only — RBI in the first inning.
Handshakes and high fives were shared all around as the D-backs went on to honor these players in a pregame ceremony after the Alumni Game concluded.
Great seeing all the ole boys at the yard today. Get the ice tub ready! @Dbacks

For what many consider to still be a young pro sports team, the D-backs have made quite a splash in their short existence.
