The Arizona Diamondbacks will turn to right-hander Zack Godley for a spot start on Saturday.

When asked whether he’d be used as an “opener” or if he’d make a normal start, Lovullo didn’t say definitively.

“I’ll talk to Zack about that,” he said with a smile. “We’re going to give him a little bit more of an opportunity tomorrow.”

The original position in the rotation to fill, of course, is Godley’s but he was moved to the bullpen in late April after posting at 7.58 ERA in six starts.

Taylor Clarke was the first pitcher to take Godley’s place and had an impressive outing against Tampa Bay on May 7, giving up two earned runs in 6.0 innings. Clarke, though, was sent down on May 9 in place of Jon Duplantier to add another fresh arm to the bullpen.

Both Duplantier and Clarke are in Triple-A Reno and not yet eligible to be called back up.

After Clarke, Godley played the role of opener on May 12 and earned his third loss of the season, giving up one earned run in 2.0 innings. In that game, Duplantier threw 3.0 innings and sacrificed three earned runs.

In four appearances out of the bullpen for Arizona, Godley has thrown 8.0 innings and allowed seven earned runs on 11 hits and three walks.

Godley is slated to face San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
